Nordic Summit is a community-driven event, and the organizers are planning for and running it on their spare time. Having people willing to help out during the day is very valuable and makes running the event much smoother. Examples of tasks during the day are welcoming attendees, assist during check-in, being a time-keeper at sessions, making sure attendees find their way to the right sessions and that the sponsors have what they need. Did you know that as a volunteer, you get an invitation to the speaker dinner?
Last year we had a bunch of helpful volunteers and some of them enjoyed it that much that they were willing to sign up also for this year’s event. We could not be happier! This year we also have new faces among the volunteers. Let’s hear from three of our Nordic Summit 2024 volunteers, two of them are revisiting Nordic Summit as a volunteer and one of them will be a first timer Nordic Summit volunteer. Who are they, what do they do, why did they choose to volunteer at Nordic Summit and what are they looking forward to the most?
Meet Jimmy Hang
Say hello to Jimmy Hang, one of our local volunteers! He’s a first time volunteer at a Nordic Summit event, but has been involved in other, M365 related, community events in the past.
My name is Jimmy Hang, I live in Norway. I’m Tech Lead for Power Platform at Bane NOR and before that, 15 years as a Microsoft consultant. I love to read and do that a lot.
I’ve always been more or less active in the tech community, and when I saw on LinkedIn that Nordic Summit needed help, I volunteered. It’s not the first time I volunteer for a community event, but I’m more active in the M365 community than Dynamics. I’m also actively speaking at different events whenever I think I have something I can share.
My expectations for the Nordic Summit 2024… A day with a lot of fun and learnings and what I’m looking forward to the most is to meet old and make new friends!
Meet Rex de Koning
The next volunteer to highlight is Rex de Koning, who lives in the Netherlands. He visited Nordic Summit 2023 as an attendee, heard that volunteers were needed and did not hesitate to sign up.
Hey all, my name is Rex de Koning, 48 years, from the Netherlands, living in a small town with my girlfriend and our dog. I’m currently a Senior Cloud Engineer at InSpark. I just got rewarded as a Microsoft MVP – Azure and I am currently a MCT.
In my spare time I try do a lot for the community, being it volunteering at events, being part of the organization, doing sessions and helping out where I can.
Being a volunteer at Nordic Summit, sort of just happened. I was going there as an attendee but found out some volunteers were still needed. So I thought why not.. I really loved all of it, from starting early getting ready to do the registration, from getting rooms ready, to cleaning up, and get to see some sessions while doing this and interaction with all the attendees, speakers and sponsors.
So not sure what the best about it was, as it was an awesome day all together. In a matter of fact, it was so great that I am a volunteer again in 2024. Hope to see you all there!
Meet Joe Griffin
Another Nordic Summit 2023 volunteer is Joe Griffin. Since Nordic Summit 2023 was so much fun and because he adores Oslo, you will meet him at Nordic Summit 2024, where he will volunteer again.
I’m Joe Griffin, from the UK. As part of my day job, I head up with UK subsidiary of proMX, a Microsoft partner specialising in Dynamics 365 Project Operations and the Power Platform. I’m really passionate about the BizApps community, travelling, reading and good food, especially desserts.
I was fortunate to have an opportunity to get involved last year as a volunteer in Denmark, and it was really amazing to provide a support to both the speakers and organisers, as these days can get incredibly stressful. Since last year was so much fun and I adore Oslo, I decided to come along and again volunteer.
Communication was really good last year, and it was also nice for the organisers to involve the volunteers as part of the speakers dinner.
